This series of training is focused on the core principles and theories of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) integration, familiarizing students with various software, hardware and database solutions designed for data creation, editing, mission analysis and post-production techniques used during Assault Zone Surveying.

 

Introductory Helicopter Landing Zone (HLZ) Survey™ Course

An introductory three-day course covering administrative Helicopter Landing Zone (HLZ) surveying/reassessments and site selection tactics and techniques; including an overview of AFI 13-217 (AFSOC Supplement) Section 3B – HLZ Operations, as well as, Safety of Flight (SoF) planning considerations and final product survey submission procedures.

An advanced five-day course covering all aspects of tactical and administrative Helicopter Landing Zone (HLZ) surveying and reassessments, including a review of Safety of Flight (SoF) procedures, and survey package submission to the final approving authority. Surveyors will understand how to implement the ‘highest’ level of safety standards when evaluating potential hazards to aircraft, personnel and/or equipment, how to properly assess a potential site for usage and provide recommendations based on unit or mission requirements. Note: Course instruction also includes an introduction to Host Nation Surveys (and review), as well as, Missile Alert Facilities (MAF) and Launch Facility standards and procedures.

A five-day course covering all aspects of standard tactical and administrative Drop Zone (DZ) surveying and site selection, including an overview of AFI 13-217 (AFSOC Supplement) for DZ criteria, Host Nation DZ surveys, a review of Safety of Flight (SoF) procedures, and survey package submission to the final approving authority. Surveyors will understand how to implement the ‘highest’ level of safety standards when evaluating potential hazards to aircraft, personnel and/or equipment, how to properly assess a potential site for usage and provide recommendations based on unit or mission requirements. Note: Course instruction also includes an introduction to various types of DZ’s; (i.e., MFF, JPADS, I-CDS, HVCDS, Drop Sondes, Area (w/RPI’s & MPI’s), Water, Open Field, Tree Jump, Mission, & Parachute Demonstration Team).

Forward Area Refueling Point (FARP) Survey™ Course

A three-day course covering all aspects of tactical and administrative Forward Area Refueling Point (FARP) surveying and site certification, i.e. Temporary or Permanent, including STANEVAL or Loadmaster review procedures, and survey package submission to the final approving authority. Surveyors will understand how to implement the ‘highest’ level of safety standards when evaluating potential hazards to aircraft, personnel and/or equipment, how to properly assess a potential site for usage, environmental impact analysis, emergency egress planning and provide recommendations based on unit or mission requirements. Note: Course instruction also includes an introduction to sister service and other than U.S. controlled FARP sites standards and procedures.

A five-day course covering all aspects of tactical and administrative Light Tactical Fixed-Wing (LTFW) surveying, assessment and site selection, including an overview of AFI 13-217 (AFSOC Supplement) for LTFW criteria, a review Safety of Flight (SoF) procedures, and survey package submission to the final approving authority. Surveyors will understand how to implement the ‘highest’ level of safety standards when evaluating any and all vertical obstructions and calculating height above runway cross-sections, and Glide Slope Ratio (GSR) determination(s).  Note: Course instruction also includes an introduction to SPACI analysis and surface distress reporting for all potential movement areas.

Surveyors will understand how to implement the ‘highest’ level of safety standards when evaluating any and all vertical obstructions and calculating height above runway cross-sections, longitudinal and transverse gradient analysis, and Glide Slope Ratio (GSR) determination(s).  Note: Course instruction also includes an introduction to SPACI analysis and surface distress reporting for all potential movement areas.

Desert Landing Site (DLS) Survey™ Course

A five-day course covering semi-prepared and tactical Desert Landing Site (DLS) surveying, imagery analysis & site selection, as well as, service life maintenance & weather condition impacts during operations; including an overview of Engineering Technical Letters (ETLs) 97-9, 04-7 and 02-19, and a review of AFI 13-217 (AFSOC Supplement). Surveyors will understand how to implement the ‘highest’ level of safety standards when evaluating any and all vertical obstructions and calculating height above runway cross-sections, longitudinal and transverse gradient analysis, Glide Slope Ratio (GSR) and Displaced Threshold determination(s). Note: Course instruction includes measurement and reporting techniques for Ruts, Rolling Resistance Material/ Rolling Friction Factor, and Runway Condition Ratings for SPACI analysis and surface distress reporting for all potential movement areas.
