Desert Landing Site (DLS) Survey Course™
A five-day course covering semi-prepared and tactical Desert Landing Site (DLS) surveying, imagery analysis & site selection, as well as, service life maintenance & weather condition impacts during operations; including an overview of Engineering Technical Letters (ETLs) 97-9, 04-7 and 02-19, and a review of AFI 13-217 (AFSOC Supplement). Surveyors will understand how to implement the ‘highest’ level of safety standards when evaluating any and all vertical obstructions and calculating height above runway cross-sections, longitudinal and transverse gradient analysis, Glide Slope Ratio (GSR) and Displaced Threshold determination(s). Note: Course instruction includes measurement and reporting techniques for Ruts, Rolling Resistance Material/ Rolling Friction Factor, and Runway Condition Ratings for SPACI analysis and surface distress reporting for all potential movement areas.
